B|E Retrofit is on-time and hassle-free as the weatherization installer on Ameresco’s comprehensive performance contract for 6 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school on Long Island.

The Challenge

Entering the project at the construction phase, B|E Retrofit’s project manager and installation team needed to understand the scope of work quickly to ensure a smooth transition to installation.

In the early 2000s, additions were made to each school. Unfortunately, the new construction had large breaks in air barrier continuity. This resulted in pipe freeze-ups at unit ventilators, comfort complaints and excessive energy consumption. The additions were the focus of much of the weatherization work.

The Solution

B|E got up to speed quickly by completing in-depth building walk-throughs and writing Internal Work Orders to ensure clear instruction to our in-house installers. B|E’s smooth transition to installation allowed Ameresco’s PM to focus on the other complex ECMs in the $10 million project.

On-site coordination with Ameresco’s Senior Engineer as well as other project subcontractors ensured that the important ECM required to prevent pipe freeze-ups and improve comfort at UVs was a success. The comprehensive scope of work included:

• Roof-Wall Intersection and Soffit Overhang Air Sealing
• Door and Window Weather Stripping and Casing Caulking
• Low E Window Film Installation
• Unit Ventilator Perimeter Air Sealing
